Australian Fauna series - Echidna

This series depicts some of our local fauna. Although they are all familiar to a much bigger area than just Warrandyte, we have seen some of them in our backyard and others nearby along the Yarra River.

The six paintings were privately commissioned and I was given a free hand to produce the art as I wanted, so long as it contained some experimentation. The way the metal is deployed for its subject and the contrasts between metals are unique characteristics of the series.

They use four types of gold, combined for color and contrast to capture some character of the animal and its environment.

The backgrounds are reverse painted with a limited palate of 5 colors and the frames are redgum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) made by Henry Hakopian.
