St Loius

Intended as a table top, the is based on an original tempera painting from the 13th century by Simone Martini. St Loius is crowning his brother Robert, King of Anjou. In the original, the clasp of his cloak is a piece of glass gilding. It is one of the earliest examples and an important historical artwork.

23ct gold and reverse painting. Different methods of gilding were used to get the contrast in finishes of gold.
